Bruce E. Gehrisch, of Marion and formerly of Mount Gilead, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 9, 2015, at Henry Ford Hospital in Macomb, Michigan. He was 76 years old.
On August 30, 1938, Bruce was born in Lucas Ohio and grew up in the Mansfield area. He was the son of the late Elwood and Gertrude (Cruit) Gehrisch. He had three brothers and one sister: Richard (Dixie) Gehrisch, Jerry (Diane) Gehrisch, the late Terry Gehrisch, and Dianne (Marvin) Gerhart.
At Bellville High School, Bruce was a great football player and athlete. Shortly following high school, Bruce was working at General Industries in Bellville, Ohio where he met his wife to be, Anne (Dunn) Gehrisch. It took a little persuasion on his part and they were married soon thereafter on April 22, 1961. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised two children, Michael and Jodi. They lived in Mount Gilead for most of their marriage, until they moved to Marion in 2006. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2013.
Bruce also worked at Levering Brothers Heating and Cooling prior to becoming a self-employed Contractor. He built and remodeled several homes, including the one that his family lived in on I-95 in Mt. Gilead. Bruce then worked and retired from Colony Condominiums as a Maintenance Supervisor.
Bruce was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, where he served for many years as usher and trustee.
Bruce was a handyman, and could fix or build about anything. He also loved to play golf with his children, grandchildren and friends at Pine Valley Golf course. With a love for traveling, Anne and Bruce enjoyed many vacations together. They took several trips to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and California, but most of their trips were to Michigan and Maryland to spend time with their children and grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his two children: Michael Denman Gehrisch (Victoria) of Bethesda, Maryland, and Jodi (Ronald) Miller of Macomb, Michigan; three grandchildren: Mitchell Gehrisch of Washington, D.C., and Trevor and Brittni Miller of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Connie Dunn of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will greet friends from Noon – 2 p.m. on Monday, July 20th, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will follow there at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lori Burdette-Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
Including his wife, parents and brother, Bruce was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Dunn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
