Effie Pauline (Alexander) Johnson, 80, of Marion

Effie Pauline (Alexander) Johnson, 80, of Marion passed away gently on July 15, 2015 with her husband of 62 years and her niece, Paula by her side.

She was born on February 22, 1935 in Marion to Paul and Jenny (Pace) Alexander.

Most of Pauline’s life was spent in the Meeker and Marseilles area. She graduated from Marseilles High School in 1952.

Pauline married Richard “Dick” Johnson in 1951. They were school day friends and were nearly inseparable for most of their lives except for the time Dick spent in the Navy during the Korean War.

After graduating high school, Pauline moved to Foley Island, South Carolina to be with her husband during his time in the military.

After the war, Pauline and Dick returned to Meeker where Pauline found employment with Fulfilment Services and later with the Marion County Title Office in the old Marion County Courthouse.

Pauline never had children but had many “Babies” those being cats, dogs, raccoons, crows, squirrels, ducks, and any other animal that was in need. Pauline cared for those babies until she had nursed them back to health. She was a true animal lover no matter what the species. The word “confined” was not in Pauline’s vocabulary, so none of her babies were ever chained, caged, or restrained in any way. When it came to her “family” nothing was too good for them. If those babies did not live inside the house with her and Dick, they had there own place outside with heat in the winter and shade in the summer where they could come and go as they pleased.

Pauline took great pride in her home, and she loved gardening. If those who new her well were to describe Pauline they may use words like “independent” and “determined” but the reoccurring theme throughout the sentiments would center around how warm and caring she was.

Pauline is survived by her last “baby” Muffin 19 and her husband Dick of 62 years, her twin sister; Maxine (Gary) VanBuskirk of Marion, sister; Linda “Joey” (Jim) Land of Tennessee, and her brother; Danny (Arlene) Alexander of Texas, brother-in-law; Bob (Anna) Johnson of Meeker, and several nieces and nephews among which are special niece and nephew; Paula and Phil Wright of Marion.

Preceding her in death were a brother; John Alexander and sisters; Jean Brown and Patricia Nagy. No services will be announced at this time.

Our many thanks to Ohio Health Hospice of Marion.
