Lowell E. Thomas, age 85, a longtime resident of Waldo, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 15, 2015, at Sarah Moore Assisted Living in Delaware.
On March 25, 1930, Lowell was born at home in Radnor, Ohio, one of ten children of the late Edwin and Verna (Evans) Thomas.
Lowell married Joan E. Porterfield on April 12, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2013.
In the 1950’s and early 1960’s, Lowell was known throughout the area as the Omar Bread Man. Later, he worked for many years at the Whirlpool Corporation as a painter until retirement.
In his earlier years Lowell enjoyed hunting, working in his vegetable garden, playing golf and softball.
Lowell’s favorite pastimes were playing cards with his family and friends, watching sports, and going to the horse races.
Surviving are his two daughters: Carol (Eddie) Gregory of Waldo and Peggy (Ralph) Benziger of Delaware; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Rammon and nine siblings.
Services honoring Lowell’s life will be observed privately by his family in Waldo Cemetery.
