Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at approximately 7:25am on State Route 309 at the intersection of Main Street in the Village of Caledonia in Marion County.
The Patrol said that Maureen E. Welch, 71, of Caledonia was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius eastbound on State Route 309 approaching the intersection of Main Street in Caledonia. Travis E. Wolford, 23, of Galion was driving a 1998 Suzuki GSXR750 motorcycle westbound on State Route 309.
Investigators said that Welch attempted to make a left turn onto Main Street and failed to yield at the intersection and was struck by Wolford. Wolford was ejected from the motorcycle and both vehicles came to rest on State Route 309.
Wolford was treated at the scene by First Consolidated EMS until Medflight arrived to transport him by air to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Wolford is listed in critical condition, according to the Patrol.
Troopers said Wolford was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Welch reported no injuries from the crash. Her safety belt was in use.
The State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by First Consolidated Fire and EMS and Medflight.
The crash remains under investigation.
