Melvin Edward Oldaker, Sr. 91, of Marion

Melvin Edward Oldaker, Sr. 91, of Marion, Ohio is celebrating his new life in Heaven. On February 10, 2011 Melvin went to live with Jesus.

He was born December 3, 1919 in Buffalo, West Virginia to the late John and Nettie Mae (Tucker) Oldaker.

He married the angel of his eyes, Vena Mae Drake, July 15, 1940 in Greenup, Kentucky. They were married 65 ½ years. God has blessed them with three sons, Gene Oldaker of Bucyrus, Ohio, Leroy (Linda) Oldaker of Marion, and Melvin Jr. (Diana) Oldaker of Marion; nine grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; a grandson, David Oldaker; and a sister, Wilma Mohler.

Melvin served in the Army during World War II. After the Army he was a farmer in Mt. Gilead for many years. He worked as a guard at Marion Correctional Institute. He then worked for Asher Lumber Co. Finally he became self employed as Oldaker Trucking before retiring. Melvin and Vena Mae loved to bless people singing gospel songs. He wrote and copyrighted a song called “I Climbed to Top of Yonder Mountain.” They loved camping and taking pictures of God’s nature. He was a member of Shiloh Community Church.

Family and friends may show their respects Monday, February 14, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Aills will officiate the service assisted by Rev. Bill Wasserbeck. Burial will follow at La Rue Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by Marion Area Veteran’s Council.
