Russell D. “Buzz” Messenger Jr., 78, of Marion

Russell D. “Buzz” Messenger Jr., age 78, of Marion passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, in his residence.

He was born on April 10, 1937 in Marion, Ohio to the late Russell D. and Edna O. (Palmer) Messenger.

He graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1955.

Russ served in the U.S.Army and was a member of VFW Post #3313, American Legion Post #584, and AmVets # 138.

He worked for 17 years with B.F.Goodrich and went on to work for 27 years at the Whirlpool Corp. before retiring in 1999.

The lifelong Marion resident is survived by two sons; Russell J. (Tammy S.) Messenger & Steven L. Messenger both of Marion, OH., two daughters; Andrea (Matthew Casto) Gibson of Marion, OH. & Melena Messenger of Panama, a brother; James (Betty) Messenger of Missouri, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter; Lisa Messenger.

Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home today, Tuesday, September 1, 2015, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. and Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00 PM. Pastor Dwight Hord will conduct the service and burial will be in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. The Marion County Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
