John “Dick” Elliott Jr., age 83 of Marengo went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Morrow County Hospital.
He was born on April 25, 1927 in Nelsonville to the late John and Blanche M. (Six) Elliott.
A US Army veteran of WW II, he retired in 1972 as a forklift operator. He moved to Marengo in 1974 from Columbus, was a collector of eagles and enjoyed sports of all types, especially swimming and roller skating in his younger years.
Dick was a member of the Sparta Advent Christian Church. A true outdoors-man, he treasured time spent working outside as well as feeding birds and his beloved cats. A self learned mechanic, he also enjoyed tinkering and repairing garden tractors. Compassionate towards all animals, he was good natured and was always willing to help others.
Survived by Daughter: Shirley (James) Rupp of Mt. Gilead, Sons: Frank E. Rowe of San Francisco, CA, Bob Rowe of Sanford, FL, 8 Grandchildren: Tonya, Travis, Julian, Jamie, Jodi, Jennifer, John, Julie, 12 Great-Grandchildren: Tiffany, Ava, Brock, Tristan, Sydnie Paige, Micah, Joshua, Andrew, Emily Grace, Cole, Alisha, and Jenna, numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew Roy Elliott of Mt. Vernon.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 36 years: Ellen L. (Compton) Elliott in 2005, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral services to be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead with Pastor David Keefer officiating, interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery, near Sparta with military honors.
