In the sunlight of an autumn morning, Martha Eloise “Dit” Lust peacefully passed away surrounded by family. Dit ended her long battle with Parkinson’s disease on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Marion Manor.
She was born on May 29, 1926 to Harold and Lois (Dickason) Roux near LaRue, Ohio. Dit grew up working and playing on the farm with siblings. While attending LaRue High School she became well-known for her successes in the classroom and athletic skill in all sports. She was the valedictorian of the class of ’44 and it was often said by her peers that Dit was “the best female athlete” they’d ever seen or “she was ahead of her time”.
Upon graduation, Dit moved to Marion and began working for the Isaly Dairy Company as a bookkeeper. She was the first employee to work in the new Isaly building on East Center Street.
After meeting on a blind date, Dit and Charles Lust were married on September 18, 1949 and shared 47 special years.
A long-time member of First Presbyterian Church she and Charlie had many friends and were the other half of the Lust-Griffiths Sunday school breakfast making crew.
Dit was a lifetime member of the LaRue American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, the Marion Women’s Bowling Association, and the American Red Cross Volunteers of Marion.
Dit was known for her old fashioned cream pies and her passion for sports. She loved to pitch the baseball, shoot a left-handed hook in basketball, throw a big strike on the lanes, and teach the boys how to kick field goals.
Her love and dedication to family and friends will be greatly missed by many. Dit was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, as well as, siblings: infant Robert Roux, Richard (Ercella) Roux, Virginia (Donald) Greenwood, Jane (Harry) Appelfeller, Rayda (Robert) Jones, brother-in-law Gus Appelfeller, sisters-in-law Ellie Lust and Loretta Lust and a nephew.
She is survived by daughter Lois Lust of Marion and son William (Kellie) of Bangor, Maine; 2 grandchildren: Nicholas and Hannah; Sister June Appelfeller; brothers-in-law: Robert Lust of Statesboro, Georgia and Richard (Sandy) Lust of California; plus many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 143 South Prospect St., Marion from 10:30AM to 11:30AM; Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:30AM with Pastor Rob Howard officiating; Burial will be in LaRue Cemetery.
If so desired, donations may be made to the Marion Chapter of the American Red Cross, First Presbyterian Church or the Ohio Health Hospice.
