Naturalist James Anderson of the Marion County Park District will host a number of free programs for the public during January 2016.
- Thursday, January 7: Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from noon to 5pm, with a bird watching program at 4 pm.
- Saturday January 9: Polar Bear Hike at the Tallgrass Trail. Walk at your own pace, as far as you’d like, between 1 pm and 4 pm. After your hike, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies in the nature center.
- Thursday, January 14: Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from noon to 5pm, with a wildlife tracking class at 4 pm.
- Saturday, January 16: 1 to 4 pm: Volunteer outing to clear unpaved section of Tallgrass Trail (Meet at the Tallgrass Trail parking lot).
- Thursday, January 21 at 4 pm at Tallgrass Trail Nature Center: Join volunteer naturalist Heidi Slagle and her puppet Skippy as they teach us all about squirrels. Play a game, make a craft, listen to a story, and enjoy a snack while learning about our backyard friends. This program is geared to preschoolers, but all ages will enjoy it.
- Saturday, January 23: 1 to 4 pm: Volunteer outing to clear unpaved section of Tallgrass Trail (Meet at the Tallgrass Trail parking lot).
- Tuesday, January 26, 7 pm: Would you like to help our parks? Come to the Friends of Prairie Parks meeting in the ground floor community room of Heritage Hall (Marion County Historical Society). Enter via lower level door on State Street.
- Thursday, January 14: Tallgrass Trail Nature Center will be open from noon to 5pm, with a Bald Eagle class at 4 pm. (There will be no live birds at this class.)
Please note that programs may be canceled due to weather.
