Dorothy M. Fogle, 98, of Waldo

Dorothy M. FogleDorothy M. Fogle, age 98, currently of Heartland of Marion passed away on Wednesday evening, January 6, 2016.  A lifelong resident of Waldo, she was delivered into God’s hands and reunited with Paul A. Fogle, her husband of 66 years.  He preceded her in death in 2003.

Dorothy was born in Marion County, Ohio on February 20, 1917, to the late Harry and Addie (Ward) Denman.  She graduated from Waldo High School in the class of 1935.

Shortly following graduation, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life. Together they lovingly raised three children: Jean, Jane and Paul Michael.

Dorothy was a great woman of her generation…a loving homemaker, a farmer’s wife, an excellent cook, a seamstress, a vegetable and flower gardener, a caring neighbor and friend, just to name a few of her many talents. She always had the coffee ready for visitors. She also had worked at Sawyer’s Sanitarium for several years.

Faithful to her community and church, Dorothy was a member of the Peace Community United Church of Christ, Waldo Mother’s Club, Garden Club, a member of the Bethlehem Grange where she was Secretary/Treasurer for many years. She especially enjoyed making decorations for the yearly alumni banquets for Waldo High School.

The grandchildren and cousins will always remember the Christmas celebrations and especially the annual Easter egg hunt at the family farm even when grandma forgot where she hid some of the eggs.

She will be missed by her three children: Jean (Dale) Yake of Marion, Jane Click of Delaware, and Paul Michael (Brenda) Fogle Sr. of Waldo; seven grandchildren: Anna (Alan) Zimmerman, Amy Vanderhoff, Arlene (Jeff) Gattshall, Todd (Aryn) Click, Lori Hovatter, Paul Michael (Kristin) Fogle Jr., and Andy (Heather) Fogle; 14 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will also be missed dearly by her special sister-in-law, Betty (Dick) Larcom of Waldo.  They spent many vacations traveling together.  Dorothy had a special relationship with Betty’s children and grandchildren, they referred to her as “Grandma D.”

Including her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Darrell Denman.

Her family will greet friends from 11a.m. – Noon on Saturday, January 9th, at the Peace Community United Church of Christ, 4061 Columbus-Sandusky Rd. S., Marion.  A life celebration will follow at Noon, with Rev. Joel Fetter officiating.  Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.

Anyone who knew Dorothy, knew she loved the color purple.  As a special tribute to her, everyone is welcome and invited to wear purple in her honor.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peace Community United Church of Christ, P. O. Box 176, Waldo, OH 43356.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone at Heartland of Marion and at Kindred Hospice, for their attentive, tender and loving care of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Dorothy’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
