Fredrick W. Houk, age 96, of Marion, died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Heartland of Marion.
Fred was born May 25, 1919 in Marion, Ohio to the late William “Bill” and Francis Houk.
After graduating from St. Mary High School, Fred joined the US Army and proudly served his country during WWII.
Fred married Eileen C. Carmine in May 15, 1948 who survives.
Fred previously was the Vice President of Jimmy’s Sales & Service Heating and Air Conditioning, delivered bread to the local school for Nickle’s Bakery, and retired from upper management at MCI.
Fred was a very hard working, well read, self-taught man. There was never a task he could not complete nor was a problem that he could not solve and although he never would ask for help, he was the first person willing to lend a hand.
Fred was a devout member of St. Mary Church and enjoyed golfing, bowling and working out every day.
Fred is survived by daughter, Sue (Gary) Allen; grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Sparling, and Jenny (Jason) Elliott; great-grandchildren, Jocelynn, Jordan, Justine, and Justice; great-great grandchildren, Conner, Trenton, Bentley, Sophia, and Braxton; brother, Dick Houk and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Leo and Ted, and sister, Mildred.
A graveside service will be held 11AM Friday, January 15, 2016 at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. Military Honors will be observed by The Marion County United Veterans Council. Memorial donations may be made in Fred’s honor to The American Alzheimer Association or the Marion County Veterans Council.
