Robert Donald Masters (Bob), 93, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 after a blessed and full long life.
Bob was born on April 4, 1922 in Bucyrus, Ohio, the son of William Henry Harrison and Mary (Hackett) Masters. He graduated from St. Mary School in the class of 1941.
Bob served in the US Navy in Hawaii during WWII. He worked for the Erie Railroad (later Erie Lackawanna and Conrail) as had his Dad and brothers until his retirement in 1981.
On May 10, 1949, Bob married Ruth E Monnette who survives him.
Additionally he is survived by children Pat (Al) Daniels of Norway, ME, Peg (Neil) VanWinkle of Worthington, OH, Jim (Sue) Masters of Dublin, OH, Penny (Tom) Boes of Worthington, OH and daughter-in-law Patty Masters of Marion. His son, Jerry, predeceased him. He loved the grandchildren and great grandchildren he leaves behind: Carrie (Andy) Williams, Eric Masters, Shawn (Keli) McClain and Kirby Masters Boes; and great grandchildren Austin James Masters, Max and Mia Williams as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses Clyde (Martha) Masters, Eleanor (Daymond) Bernard, Edwin (Betty) Masters, and Evangeline (Charles) Cocherl.
Bob was an avid golfer for many years and a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was quite the euchre player with family members of all ages. He loved to listen to and sing along to the music of the Big Band era and enjoyed watching special movies like “The Sound of Music”. A real highlight for Bob was his trip to Washington DC on June 4, 2011 with Honor Flight accompanied by his good friend, John Shore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Church by Father Thomas Buffer on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10 am. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service. The family extends an invitation for everyone to come to The Knights of Columbus, Council #671, 1232 E. Center Street in Marion after the church service to celebrate the life of this special man.
The family would like to thank everyone at Kingston Day Care, Interim Health, Heartland of Marion and Heartland Hospice for their kind care given to Bob and support to the family.
