Paula Elizabeth Finnegan, 93, of Marion

Paula Elizabeth FinneganPaula Elizabeth Finnegan, age 93, of Marion, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Kingston of Marion.

Paula was born March 10, 1922 in Marion, Ohio to the late Dr. Robert and Marguerite (Kalkbrenner) Ramroth.

She was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary High School and continued her education at St. Mary of the Springs College where she graduated valedictorian.  She then continued her education at The Catholic University in Washington DC.

Paula married John W. Finnegan on February 12, 1949, who preceded her in death December 6, 1962.

Paula was an avid social worker and teacher.  During World War Two, Paula worked for the Red Cross as a social worker at the Marion County Depot.  After the death of her husband, while raising four children, Paula finished her teaching degree.  She then worked for the Marion City School as a respected, well known, and compassionate 4th and 5th grade teacher at Olney Elementary School until her retirement in 1982.

After retirement, Paula was very active in the Democratic Party and a social worker for Turing Point.  Paula was an active Member of the Marion County Democratic Women’s Club in the 1970s and served on the Marion County Democratic Central Committee in the 1990s.  Paula was also a member of St. Mary Church where she sang in the Memorial Choir.

Paula is survived by children, Rita (Robert) Griffin of Westerville, Judge William “Bill” (Sarah) Finnegan of Marion, Matt (Lisa) Finnegan of Columbus, and Mark (Denise Heberle) of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Katie, Jack, Mike and Heather Griffin; Alana and John Finnegan; Rory, Sunny, Grace, Ramroth, and Penny Finnegan; and Marguerite, Cleo,  and Paula Finnegan; great-grandchildren, David, Andrew, Julia, Lily, Ava and Eli; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Robert and Marguerite and husband, John, Paula is predeceased by a sister, Miriam Sherrer.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 PM Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Gunder/Hall & Snyder Funeral Home with Parish Prayers at 4 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Paula’s honor to The Marion Area Humane Society or The ASPCA.
