Victoria A. Burt, 65, of Marion

Victoria A. BurtVictoria A. Burt fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.  She was welcomed into Heaven Sunday evening, April 3, 2016, at The Convalarium of Dublin following a battle with cancer.  She was 65 years old.

On September 28, 1950, Vicki was born in Kenton, Ohio, the oldest of three daughters of the late George and Patricia (Sanders) Young.  She was raised in Marion, Ohio, where she graduated from Pleasant High School in the class of 1968.  Just like the rest of her family, she was a proud Pleasant alum.

Very driven and determined, for many years Vicki worked during the day and went to school at night, attending The Ohio State University at Marion and earning her certified legal assistant degree from Capital University.  Then, while working at the Marion County Law Library, she saw an opportunity to apply for a position at the Jasper N. Burt Law Office, and the rest is history.  She quickly became Jay’s biggest supporter, helping him with his countless work and civic endeavors all throughout the state of Ohio.  For over thirty years, Vicki managed Jay’s office and served as a dedicated legal assistant, until recently when she was no longer able due to her health.

After working a few years in Jay’s office, Vicki became Jay’s partner in life, too.  They were married on March 12, 1983, and cherished every moment with one another for their thirty-three years together.  Over the years, they shared everything, especially a love of traveling.  They shared many unique experiences and adventures on their travels, such as scuba diving, snorkeling, helmet diving in Bermuda, parasailing, and on and on.  Their favorite trip together was to Hawaii, and they were each hoping to visit there again.

In addition to having deep family values, Vicki also had a deep faith in the Lord.  She was an active member of the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, where she was extremely supportive of all of their children’s programs, helping them in any way she could.  She also loved leading the children’s bell choir and helping with the preschool Sunday school.  Every day, Vicki practiced her faith and read the Bible.  Vicki also supported The Salvation Army, and the Christian outreach program, World Vision.

Most important of all to Vicki was her family.  With Jay, the old adage that “behind every great man is an even greater woman” holds true.  Vicki cared for him every way she could, especially spoiling him as a great homemaker and cook.  She dearly loved her children, Toby and Alissa, and shared a special friendship with them.  Her grandchildren were the apples of her eyes, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

A few other loves of Vicki’s were shopping, jazz music, the Ohio State Buckeyes, shopping, knitting and needlepoint, art, dinner with friends and family, and did we mention shopping?!

Vicki will forever be remembered for her spunk, strong will, and determination, and for her generous and loving heart.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Jasper “Jay” Burt; two children: Toby (Lisa) Hensel and Alissa (Nick) Martin; two stepchildren: Christopher (Lesley) Burt and David (Justina) Burt; eight grandchildren: Jaden and Addison Hensel, Lucas Martin, Reagan and Grayson Burt, and Justin, Madison, and Delanie Burt; two sisters: Georgia (Mark) Woodworth and Teresa (Charles) Vail; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and three special canine companions: China, Bella, and Cookie.

Her family will greet friends from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, 233 W. Church St., Marion.  Services celebrating her life will also be held there at 11 a.m. on Saturday.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, c/o Children’s Ministries, 233 W. Church St., Marion, OH 43302.
