Sammy Borders, age 90, formerly of Brownstone Terrace, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones June 18, 2016 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Community.
He was born to Coy and Okie (Williams) Borders in Cyrus, Kentucky on August 23, 1925.
He married the former Allie Hale on June 10, 1950 celebrating 55 years before her passing on February 9, 2005.
He is survived by sisters; Mabel Cantrell of Marion and Betty Sue (John) Ewing of Fairborn, OH., and a brother; Pete (Irene) Borders. His sons are James C. (Sandy) Borders Sr. and Marion Lynn (Jackie) Caudill both of Marion, OH. His grandchildren are Lori (Kevin) Watkins, Kenneth (Candace) Caudill, Shona (Jared) Newsome, and Ashley (Juan) Caudill with 15 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers; Hagar, Hearl, Mearl, B.F., Johnny and a sister; Mearlene Borders and one grandson; James Borders Jr. “Jimmy”.
In the 40’s as a young man he signed up with the 3C’s being sent to Utah to help build damns while sleeping in bunk houses still having hitching posts in front. In the 50’s, hired by his Uncle Manuel, he drove delivery truck for Williams Grocery of Paintsville, KY. delivering groceries and animal feed throughout several counties. When the oil boom hit in Eastern Kentucky he also worked for Cumberland Petroleum on a drilling rig and Wiser Petroleum as a pumper on wells and tanks. Migrating north to Ohio in 1965, he found himself driving once again for Dekalb Farms till they relocated out of state. He gained employment with Getman Brothers Pantent Scaffolding in Marion until his retirement in 1987.
He loved and cherished his church family where a memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 1:00 PM in the First Freewill Baptist Church, 1449 Crissinger Rd., Marion, OH. with Pastor Jerry Copley officiating.
