Libby V. Babich, 89, of Marion

Libby V. Babich, age 89, of Marion, died Friday, April 15, 2011 at her home at Kingston Residence.

The oldest of two children of the late Max and Yetta Berman, Libby was born on August 12, 1921, in Lorain, Ohio.  She graduated as the Valedictorian of her class from Lorain High School in 1939.

On October 13, 1942, Libby married the love of her life, Samuel “Sam” Babich in Lorain, Ohio, just three days before he was shipped out for his World War II US Army service overseas in Persia.  His love for Libby was so strong that he wrote her five days a week for his entire tour.

Shortly after Sam’s honorable discharge and reuniting with Libby, they moved to Marion, Ohio in 1947 and went into the retail clothing business. They were owners of Guys & Dolls in Marion, the Treasure House in Delaware, Ohio, and the Treasure Chest in Bucyrus, Ohio, until their retirement. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2008.

Libby was an active member of Temple Israel, and served on their Artisans and Junior Service Guilds.

Libby will be dearly missed by her son Larry and daughter-in-law Sara Logsdon Babich of Marion, whose children are Benjamin and Lauren; her daughter Marna Kacenjar and her husband Allen of Seven Hills, Ohio, whose children are Laura, Karen, and Allen Kacenjar Jr, with his wife Kelly and their children, Sam & Libby's great-grandchildren, Connor, Julia and Reegan; and by her brother, Bernie Berman of California.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, the family wishes that no flowers be sent.  Contributions in Libby’s memory may be made to Temple Israel of Marion, Marion General Hospital’s Hospice program, or Eye to Eye of Marion, Ohio.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 11AM at Temple Israel, 850 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Marion, Ohio with Rabbi Phillip J. Schwartz officiating.  Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Libby’s family.
