Sheriff names Soice and DeWitt Deputy and Civilian of Year

deputy-civilian-2016Sheriff Tim Bailey has announced the 2016 employees of the year for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Detective Jim Soice has been selected as the Deputy of the Year. Detective Soice joined the sheriff’s office in 2010 as an auxiliary deputy sheriff following his graduation from the Marion Technical College Basic Academy. Jim was hired to work at the Marion County Dog Pound in 2012 and later in 2012 was hired as a deputy sheriff. He served in the road patrol division until early 2016 he was then assigned to the detective division.

While on special assignment as an investigator he and his partner, working with local businesses have been responsible for over 300 shoplifting arrests this year. Detective Soice is a scuba diver and serves with the Underwater Recovery Team.

Jim is a lifelong resident of Marion County graduating from Harding High School. He and his wife Tina have a 26 year old son and a 20 year old daughter.

Sheriff Bailey also announced Candice DeWitt as the civilian employee of the year. Candice joined the sheriff’s office early in 2016 as the budget director.

Candice replaced a long time employee of the sheriff’s office and accepted the challenge and responsibility of managing the day to day financials of the office where she has done an excellent job. Candice brought experience with her from the Delaware County Auditor’s office and she does an outstanding job in analyzing budget issues and solving problems.

Candice is a lifelong resident of Marion County and she, her husband, Sean Dewitt, and their 2 year old son
reside in Marion.

Sheriff Bailey noted that with an outstanding staff it is difficult to select two individuals that stand out from the rest.

“Jim and Candice represent the sheriff’s office well and I am proud to have them on my staff,” stated Sheriff Bailey.
