MTC Offers Computer Security Seminar

Marion Technical College is hosting a seminar on computer security on Friday, May 20, at 3:30 pm. Major Jeff Cline of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will present the class designed to inform on the dangers prevelant and how to increase your safety.

The seminar cost is $15.

This seminar is intended for those who are connected to the Internet through their cellular phone and computer and use one of the many tools to freely connect with the world around us. It is also intended for parents and grandparents of children who use the Internet on their computer or have access to the Internet on their cellular phone.

This seminar will provide an overview of prevailing trends on how criminals use technology and gain information to commit fraud against us or attempt to meet children through cyberspace. Additionally it will explore how law enforcement and the legal system are combating issues involving misuses with the Internet and other technology as it relates to our families and children.

It will also provide information everyone should know about abuses with social media sites, chat rooms and cellular phone technology and where you can go for assistance.

Major Jeff Cline has been a deputy sheriff at the Marion County Sheriff's Office for 18 years. He has held a variety of positions within the sheriff’s office during his career including: road patrol deputy, field training officer, community law enforcement officer, departmental training officer, shift supervisor and tactical team commander. Major Cline was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2004 and in 2009 he was promoted to the rank of Major. He teaches at the Marion Police Academy and also at the Delaware Area Career Center Police Academy.
