Joseph Anthony Mamone, age 79, went home to be with his Savior Wednesday afternoon, May 18, 2011 at his residence.
He was born September 7, 1931 in Chatteroy, West Virginia to the late James and Anna Marie (Damasi) Mamone.
Joe was married to Nellie Mary Prichard June 2, 1956. He and Nellie enjoyed 53 years together before she passed away on November 27, 2009. Joe worked very hard to take care of his wife Nellie while she was ill, and it brings great joy knowing he has been reunited with her.
Joe was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He retired from Norfolk & Southern R.R., and will be missed by the many friends he made there. The years of advice he gave to his family over the years will forever be in their hearts.
Joe is survived by his daughters, Janet Ann Green, Kimberly (David) Murphy, and Christina Mamone all of Marion; grandchildren, Shannon Cox, Daniel (Ashley) Green, and Matthew and Nicholas Murphy; great grandchildren, C.J. and Zachary Cox, and Allison and Madison Green; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Mamone; brothers, Michael and James Mamone; sister, Frances Olsen; and son-in-law, Daniel Green.
The Mamone family would like to thank Pastor Bill Middleton, and Brian and Brenda with Marion General Hospital’s Hospice program.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 23, 2011 at 1 PM at Grace Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery. Pastor Nick Worden will officiate the service. Prior to the service the family will greet friends and loved ones from 11 AM until time of service.
Contributions in memory of Joe may be made to Grace Baptist Church.
