With the official arrival of summer this week, the 19th annual Celebrate Summer antique car, art & food festival is set to happen right on queue. The antique cars, art and food festival will take place in Downtown Marion on West Center and Oak streets from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Festival organizers feel there will be a little something for everyone.
“We still have the long-established art show,” said Karen Herr, manager of Downtown Marion, Inc. “It will feature lots of different types of jewelry, paintings, drawings, metal sculptures … just a number of handmade items of all types.”
For the third year, the Marion Historical Society will add their pre-1950 Car and Truck Extravaganza to the festivities. Antique car enthusiasts will be coming from all over the region to share their restored vehicles with Celebrate Summer attendees. Herr said, “The owners – and many others — view these vehicles as works of art, so the fit is very natural.”
The food court will feature wood-fired pizza; corn on the cob; dessert crepes; homemade noodles, peanut brittle and baked goods; ice cream and root beer floats; and hamburgers, cheeseburgers, brats, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches.
Also on tap, will be the Mid-Ohio Fine Art Society, Marion Hobby Club, Whetstone Woodcarvers, Marion Camera Club, Bits and Pieces Quilting Guild, and Monkey Organ Grinders, as well as a Children’s Art Area staffed by the Heart of Ohio Mentoring organization.
There is still time to be a part of Celebrate Summer. Complete information, as well as registration forms, can be found at www.CelebrateSummer.org. Perspective artists may call 740-387-4630; car participants can call 740-389-6214; or for general information call 740.382.2181.
“I would be remiss,” said Herr, “if, in inviting everyone to come and enjoy this great festival, I failed to encourage everyone to visit one of our fabulous downtown businesses.”
Celebrate Summer and Downtown Marion, Inc. are non-profit organizations whose mission is the revitalization of downtown Marion.
