John E. Dye, 85, of Marion

John E. Dye age 85 of Marion, Ohio went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his residence.

He was born March 24, 1926 in Snyder, OK., to the late Pleasant Dye and Maggie Dye-Burk.

On June 18, 1943 he married Mary D. (Rease) she preceded him in death in 1969, he then married Grace I. (Runyon) Dye, she survives in Marion.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart and Sharp Shooter Medal. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church, and was employed at Erie-Lakawanna Rail Road/ Conrail for thirty-seven and a half yeras before retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Dye of Marion, OH., his children, Carol (Dan) Gleespen of Marion, OH., Sharon (Larry) Miller of Marion, OH., Debbie (Mark) Drake of Inglewood, FL., step children, Barb (Butch) Stapleton of Richwood, OH., Juanita Albright of Marion, OH., Bonnie Hanshaw of Houston, TX., Connie (Bill) King of Marion, OH., Rick (Mary) Goddard of Marion, OH., Debra (Dwight) Dutton of Mesa, AZ., Sue Carroll of Marion, OH., 18 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sisters, Martha Rease of Marion, OH., Georgia (Elton) Timmons of Marion, OH., and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by a step son, Ed Goddard, a grandson, Matt Stapleton, great granddaughter, Skyler Riley, four brothers, George Dye, Roy Dye, Harlen Dye, Bill Dye, three sisters, Mary Spears, Bessie Knicerem, Erma Hildebrant.

Funeral services for john will be hels Monday, June 27, 2011 11 AM at Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 2 – 6 PM at the Boyd-born Funeral Home.
