Marguerite Solomon Fogle, 91, of Marion and formerly of Prospect

Marguerite Solomon Fogle, of Marion and formerly of Prospect, passed away on Thursday evening, October 6, 2011, at the Marion Manor Nursing Home.  She passed peacefully leaving many family and friends to celebrate her wonderful 91 years of life.

On December 28, 1919, Marguerite was born in Prospect, Ohio, one of five children of the late Frank and Winona (Biggerstaff) Solomon.

She graduated in 1938 from Prospect High School, and later attended Marion Business School.

Shortly after graduating, Marguerite married the love of her life, Robert J. Fogle, at the Zion Reformed Church in Waldo on June 18, 1939. Together they resided in Waldo for a few years after their marriage until moving to Uhler Avenue in Marion where they lovingly raised one daughter, Geraldine.  They shared over 45 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 1984.

For her first 6 years of work, Marguerite was in the office of the Uhler Department Store in downtown Marion and subsequently went to work at Smith Clinic where she worked as a secretary/assistant for thirty-five years, beginning in Dr. J. W. Bull’s office.

A woman of deep faith, Marguerite was a faithful member of the First United Church of Christ for over 65 years.  At one time, she taught the Primary class and belonged to the Joy Circle.  She and Robert belonged to the C I B – the Class in the Balcony; and she served on countless church committees throughout the years.  She served on the board of the Marion Historical Society and was a member of the Prospect Garden Club.  In her youth she belonged to the “Christian Endeavor” in Prospect, where she told stories of learning to pray in public when asked.

For several years, Marguerite hasn’t been too well, yet she faithfully attended church when her health permitted and always kept in good touch with others in the church family.

A favorite pastime and hobby for Marguerite was collecting antique china with the Tea Leaf pattern.  She had many beautiful antiques she purchased at auctions and sales she went to over the years.

Marguerite will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Frank Hiestand of Westerville; three beloved grandchildren, Lisa Thaxton of Lewis Center, Jana (Joe) Peachman of Avon Lake, and L. Robert Thaxton of Columbus; one step-granddaughter, Patricia Hiestand of Westerville; three great grandchildren who were precious to her: Andrew, Nathan and Allison Peachman, all of Avon Lake; two sisters-in-law, Betty (Richard) Larcom, and Dorothy Fogle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Marguerite was preceded in death by her three brothers: Ernest, Robert and Charles Solomon; a sister, Florence Schweitzer; a son-in-law, Larry M. Thaxton; a brother-in-law, Paul Fogle; and nephews, Richard Retterer, Robert Solomon and Ernest Solomon, Jr. and niece Sandra Solomon.

The Fogle family will greet friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring her life will be held on Tuesday at the First United Church of Christ, 326 S. Prospect St., Marion, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gale Green officiating.  Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the American Cancer Society, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Marguerite’s family, and online condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
