William L. (Bill) Powell, 72, of Prospect

William L. (Bill) Powell age 72 of Prospect, Ohio, passed away Saturday November 19, 2011 at his residence.

Bill was born August 19, 1939 in Apollo, Pa. to the late Linus and Marie (Shick) Powell.

Bill married Connie Mickey who was from Windber, Pa. on December 30, 1958 in Washington D.C. at the Washington Cathedral.

Bill completed his Bachelors degree and Masters degree in Education at the Ohio State University. He was a Teacher and Administrator for 29 years.

Bill was a 2nd Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 and served as Staff Sgt. in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1975 to 1987.

Bill attended Cornerstone Alliance Church. His favorite pastime was having special times with his wife and building legos with his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Connie Powell of Prospect, son's Bill (Libby) Powell of Marion, Ben (April) Powell of Delaware, daughter's Amber Firstenberger of Marion and Lorrie (Mike) Saunders of Marysville, grandchildren Leah (Powell) Aaron Roth, Audrey and Luke Powell, Hayden and Hayley Powell, Emily (Whittington) Aaron Evans, Melody (Whittington) Chaney, and Cade and Grace Saunders. Also surviving are sisters Helen (Ben) Hechmer of Ocala, Fla., Clara (Kelly) McElroy of Apollo, Pa., Ada (Jerry) DeArmitt of Butler, Pa., and Louise Brehm of Windber, Pa.

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his son-in-law John Firstenberger and brother- in-laws Ron Brehm and Bill Jarvie.

There will be a private family graveside service for Bill in the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Westerville, Ohio with Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Association. A public Memorial Service will take place on Saturday November 26, 2011 at the Cornerstone Alliance Church at 2010 Marion Marysville Rd. in Marion, Ohio at 4:00 P.M. Officiating the Memorial Service will be Pastor Tim Miller.
