Richard J. (Dick) Behm passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Marion General Hospital after a short battle with liver cancer at age 76, surrounded by family.
Born in Bloomsburg, Pa. on February 11, 1935 and graduated from Bloomsburg High School before serving in the United States Navy from 1952-1956 in Kingsville, TX.
He graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Institute. After graduation, he began working with the Hoover Co. in North Canton, before relocating to Marion to work for Jay Maish Advertising.
In 1967, Dick found a home at Lord, Sullivan, and Yoder Advertising Agency in Marion and worked in the creative art department and later as a Vice President of Art Direction. Dick’s colleagues greatly admired his artwork, approach to life, and work ethic. He earned both accolades and respect and has been described as truly “one in a million artistic talent” throughout his career and after retirement in 1997.
After retirement, Dick turned his attention to visiting his growing family and traveling with his wife Sue (Anspaugh). Though their travels took them all over the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean, their favorite stop was Cozumel, Mexico, a site they visited annually from the mid-1990s to their trip this fall. Dick also enjoyed painting water colors and dining out with friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Mary D. Behm. He is survived by Sue, his wife of 46 years, his sons Michael (Shannon) and Marty (Heather) Behm and his daughter Annette (Billy) Boone. He cherished the time he spent with his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Matthew Behm, Caelen and Rory Behm, Bethany and Bryton Boone.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St. in Marion, at 10:30 AM. Visitation with family will begin an hour before the service. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery immediately following the service. All are invited and welcome to join the family for lunch at The Knights of Columbus Club located at 1232 East Center Street, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dick’s memory to the Good Days from Chronic Disease Fund Foundation (http://www.gooddaysfromcdf.org/donate), 6900 North Dallas Parkway, Suite 200, Plano, TX, 75024. Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.gunderhallandfolk.com.
