Edna Mae Neidhart Cochran, age 84, of Marion, died Sunday evening, December 11, 2011, at the Primose Retirement Community.
On March 8, 1927, Edna was born in Marion, along with her twin brother, Ed, of the late David B. and Cora M. (Seiter) Neidhart.
She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Pleasant High School in the Class of 1945, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
While showing Black Angus cattle at the Marion County Fair, Edna spent time with Everett Cochran, who showed hogs. After a long courtship and many meals at her parents’ restaurant “the Country Cottage,” the two were married on a special day for weddings in their family, September 16, 1951, at the Prospect St. United Methodist Church. Together they enjoyed almost fifty seven years of marriage and lovingly raised three children: Joyce, Anita, and Kevin. He preceded her in death on September 8, 2008.
In addition to being a loving homemaker for her husband and children, Edna also worked as a typist both for the Marion Department of Transportation and the Marion Engineers Depot.
A woman of faith, Edna was a devoted member of the Community United Methodist Church, now the Crosswoods United Methodist Church. One example of her devotion to the church was that she helped to raise over $20,000 simply by couponing.
Avid gardeners, Edna and Everett enjoyed tending to their one acre garden, selling their produce to passersby and neighbors at their home on the Old SR 23 South.
Nearly every weekend for over sixty years, Edna and her family enjoyed going to their cottage at the East Harbor State Park where she loved to catch the biggest Walleye!
Having an ornery streak in her, Edna enjoyed pulling practical jokes on her family and friends.
Putting the needs of everyone else before her own, Edna was “so giving, that it was almost to a fault”. Most importantly of all, she was proud of her family and took pride in being a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She will be dearly missed by her two daughters and a son: Joyce (Vaughn) Hooks of Hinsdale, IL, Anita Davol of Safety Harbor, FL, and Kevin Cochran of Magnolia, TX; seven grandchildren: Matthew and Spencer Hooks, Dana Loggins, Nathan Davol, Cora Davol, Rachel Woods, and Dustin Cochran; three great-grandchildren: Dylan Rogers, Jackson and Levi Loggins; her sister, Norma Fox of Prospect; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by her twin Edward F. Neidhart; two sisters: LaVina Martin and Viola Cratty; and two brothers: Lester and Clarence Neidhart.
The Cochran family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
