Jane C. Peppard, age 87, of Marion, died peacefully on Friday morning, January 20, 2012, at her residence.
Jane was born June 17, 1924, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to the late Gilbert and Marie (Harrison) Collins.
She graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1942. Following high school, Jane served in the U. S. Navy, as a WAVE, and was stationed in Harrisburg, PA.
She married her high school sweetheart, David G. Peppard on December 31, 1945, in Philadelphia, PA, and shared over 56 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2002.
Jane worked as the private secretary for John Q. Shunk, of Shunk Manufacturing. She helped him start the John Q. Shunk Foundation in 1948, to give scholarships to students of Crawford County. She has served on the board of directors from inception until the present.
Jane was the Executive Director of the United Way of Marion County. She enjoyed the fulfillment of serving the Marion community for over 27 years, until her retirement in 1990.
In addition to serving the community through the United Way, Jane had served as a member on the Marion General Hospital Foundation Board, the River Valley School Board of Education, the American Legion Post 605 in Waldo, the Claridon Homemakers Club, and she had been a member and past president of Altrusa.
A woman of faith, Jane was a devoted member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo, where she had served on the church council and had been an elder.
She will be dearly missed by her four children: D. Keith (Mary Sue) Peppard of Marion, Marsha McDonald of Dublin, J. Ann (Keith) Stuck of Vass, North Carolina, and Marianne “Pinky” (Scott) Wedertz of Franklin, Tennessee; eight grandchildren: D. Michael (Bevin) Peppard, Erin and Meghan McDonald, Aimee (Shad) Huffer, Kristen and Lauren Wedertz, Bryan (Amy) Stuck and Kasey Stuck; four great-grandchildren: Noah Spencer, Kyler Peppard, Evan and Kelsey Stuck; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Collins.
Services honoring Jane’s life will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 135 W. Main St., Waldo, Ohio 43356. Her family will greet friends at 3p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Claridon Cemetery.
In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
