Albert “Red” R. Ferriman, age 88, of Marion, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Marion General Hospital.
Red was born in Marion, Ohio on August 31, 1923, the son of Arthur Raymond and Minnie (Truitt) Ferriman.
Before he was 18 years old, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps’s and went to Colorado to help build the Boulder Dam in the late 1930’s. After his time in Colorado, Red came back to Ohio where he married Anna Louise Grounds in Marion on December 27, 1940 and they have celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Red’s father, Arthur, was drafted into World War II in 1941 where he served in the United States Army. Three years later in the spring of 1944, Red too entered into the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. Red and his father didn’t serve side by side, but they were able to meet in England and spend a little time together. Red received 2 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
After the war, Red worked for the Marion Engineer Depot and also for the Marion Power Shovel. Most recently, Red spent 15 years working in the Elgin Junior High School in the Custodial Care Department.
Red will forever be remembered for his passion of fishing which he greatly enjoyed. He could also be found at auctions buying all kinds of items whether he needed them or not. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #337 and the Moose Lodge #889 both of Marion. Above all, Red was a proud father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
Red is survived by his faithful wife of 71 years, Anna L. Ferriman; his devoted children: Judith (Allen) Johnson of Galion, Jack R. (Marjorie) Ferriman of Marion, “Pete” Arthur E. (Georgette) Ferriman of Marion; his beloved grandchildren: David (Sarah) Johnson, Lori Stevens, Shawn Ferriman, Scott (Sally) Ferriman, Jodi (Mark) Hundley, Jeff (Sherry) Ferriman; 12 Great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur Raymond Ferriman and Minnie Gholson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion, from 11AM to 1PM; Graveside services will follow at the Grand Prairie Cemetery with Pastor Craig Lewis officiating and military honors will be observed.
