Steven Donald Rhoades, 60, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
He was born February 14, 1951 in Marion, Ohio to William D. and Natalie V. (Hartley) Rhoades, who both survive.
He was a 1969 graduate of Ridgedale High School and attended the Ohio State University.
Steve was a long term employee of the Quaker Oats Company in Marion until he became the owner/manager of the H & R Block Franchise in Marion, Ohio and later acquiring the H & R Block Franchise in Marysville, Ohio. He was an Enrolled Agent with the Internal Revenue Service.
Steve is survived by his son, Sean Rhoades (wife, Carey) and their three children, Ashley, Erin, and Hayden and his daughter, Shanna (Rhoades) Sharp (husband, Jason) and their two children, Makenzie and Gavin.
His is also survived by his sisters, Pamela Ebert (husband, Clyde), Marsha Conway (husband Jim), Sandy Bowling (husband, Phil), Pat Wilkinson-Kidwell (husband, Bob) and Gail Kidwell (husband, Steve) and one brother, Mike (wife, Vickie). Also surviving are seventeen nieces and nephews and additional great nieces and nephews.
Additionally, he is survived by his ex-wife, Sheryl with whom they have remained friends.
Steve grew up with a farming background and was an award winning horseman and long time 4-H member and supporter of 4-H programs.
An avid supporter of youth, Steve provided many scholarships to local youth in their pursuit of a college degree. He also was a long time scholarship provider for Marion’s Shining Stars and the Miss Marion Popcorn Scholarship Program. Steve was a charitable sponsor of the Holocaust Museum and numerous other charitable organizations.
He enjoyed travel and was a true family man who loved spending times with his entire extended family.
Arrangements are being handled by Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion with calling hours on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dayspring Wesleyan Church with Pastor David Holdren presiding. Burial will be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery.
The family has suggested that donations may be made in care of the Boyd-Born Funeral Home which will be placed in a Steven D. Rhoades Memorial Scholarship Fund for youth in the community to assist in their college education.
