Last Chance to Vote for Ohio Statue

Saturday is the last day to vote for a new statue that will represent Ohio in the U.S. Capitol's Statuary Hall.

The state is seeking to replace the statue of William Allen, a 19th century congressman and governor who supported Southern slave owners and portrayed blacks as savages.

Among the finalists: inventor Thomas Edison, athlete Jesse Owens, writer Harriet Beecher Stowe (pictured) and the Wright brothers.

The voting has been going on at the Statehouse in Columbus and at 35 other sites affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society, the Cincinnati Museum Center and the Cleveland-based Western Reserve Historical Society.

Results will be announced in late July.

In addition to voting in person, you can visit www.legacyforohio.org to vote online or get a ballot to mail in. Details on the possible statues can also be found at that website.
