Absences Require Additional Council Meetings

Marion City Council met in regular session Monday night, but vacations and a need to pass a grant proposal this week is requiring more meetings to be held.

Three City Council members were absent Monday because of vacations. One of the items on the agenda was the final vote for the Community Development Block Grant and Distress Grant. Recent changes would allow the City to put more money into the projects, but that would require amending the plan. That amendment would require Council to hold three readings, something they do not have time for, or suspend those rules, something they could not do with the amount of missing council members.

In order to make the changes and get the grant proposals moving forward, City Council has called special meetings for tonight and tomorrow (Wednesday). This will allow for the three readings and final vote. Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:35 pm.
