Martin J. Augenstein, 74, of Marion

Martin J. Augenstein age 74 of Marion died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Marion General Hospital.

He was born April 19, 1937 in Marion, the oldest child of Robert and Irene Augenstein.

He attended Capital University after graduating from Waldo High School and worked in the polio ward at Children's Hospital. He then worked at McMillian Feed in Marion.

On November 25, 1959 he married the former Judy Silvers, she survives in Marion.

He worked at Fairfield Engineering for many years starting in the shop and then working as a draftsman. He became the General Manager of Fairfield Erectors.

Martin was a sports fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State football and basketball. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, card player and also sang in the Messiah. He was a very involved father in his children's activities. He was a Boy Scout Master starting the boy scout troop at Timothy Lutheran Church and was a boy's baseball coach. As each of his sons became old enough, he joined in the annual fishing trip to Canada. He was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge and the Marion Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards at both places.

Martin is survived by his three sons, Dan Augenstein of Marion, Steve (Amy) Augenstein and grandsons, Evan and Adam of Prospect,  Mike Augenstein of Summerville, SC., and his daughter, Laurie Arnold of Columbus. Also survived by his brothers, Lynn (Ruthie) Augenstein of Ponte Verde Beach, FL., Dave (Phyllis) Augenstein of Rivers Junction, MI., Bernie (Linda) Augenstein of Greenwood,IN., and Bob (Elaine) Augenstein of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, his grandson, David Simpson and his sister, Nancy Augenstein.

Funeral Services for Martin will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 @ 10 AM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, April 20, 2012 from 5 – 8 PM and Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 9 – 10 AM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
