Harding Home Event Steps into the Past

Civil War enthusiasts are in for a treat as “Voices of the Union’s War“ is presented at 7 p.m. June 7 under the tent on the grounds of the Harding Home. Three distinct voices from the 1861-64 conflict will converge as photographer Mathew Brady, President Abraham Lincoln and a soldier with the Ohio Colored Troops reveal their thoughts and experiences.

Mark Holbrook (pictured above), who presented a program about Brady in February at the Stengel-True Museum, will focus this time on Brady’s meetings with some of the larger-than-life leaders of the Civil War, including Lincoln and Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.

John Cooper’s Lincoln (pictured at right) will talk about his innermost thoughts during this trying period of history, as well as his impressions of the Ohioans helping the Union war efforts.

Anthony Gibbs (pictured at left) will present a view of the war from the soldier’s point of view. Many of Ohio’s Colored Troops served with the colored soldiers featured in the film, Glory.

Admission to the program is $10, and can be paid at the door. However, advance reservations are strongly encouraged.

Interested persons may reserve seats by calling the Harding Home at 387-9630 or by emailing Harding Home Site Manager Sherry Hall at [email protected].
