Helen Gates, 101, of Mt. Gilead

Helen M. “Gee-Gee” Gates, age 101, of Mount Gilead, passed away Friday afternoon, June 15, 2012, at the Woodside Village Care Center.

Helen was born on May 3, 1911 in Mount Gilead, the daughter of the late Thomas Franklin and Rose Ell (Pinyerd) Rinehart.  She graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1930.

On June 12, 1932, Helen married Chester R. Gates.  They shared over 61 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 30, 1993.

Throughout the years, Gee-Gee worked for many places including: Rikes Kumler Department Store in Dayton, White House ladies apparel shop in Mount Gilead, and she also worked as a receptionist in the offices of Dr. Gerald Robinson and Dr. John T. Sweeney.
Helen embraced her love of the Lord as a member of the Gilead Friends Church.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Mount Gilead, an honorary member of the Morrow County Hospital’s Orchid Twig, The Loners Club, and Frederick Courtesy Club at Vandalia.

In her spare time, Gee-Gee loved spending time with her family, gardening, and was a beautiful seamstress.

Gee-Gee will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sharon (Duane) Campbell of Mount Gilead; 10 grandchildren: Jan (Larry) oldwell of Killbuck, Ohio, Mike (Jeannie) Walsh of Mount Gilead, Jim (Theresa) Walsh of Mount Gilead, Julia (Rick Howell) Walsh of Mount Gilead, Pat Walsh of New York, Carol Walsh of Mount Gilead, Joe (Shannon) Walsh of Cardington, Theresa (Carol) Walsh of North Carolina, Luane Campbell of Edison, Suzanne (Chuck II) Marosek of Greenville, Texas; 20 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly R. Walsh-Johnson; six brothers: Fred, Arthur, George, Pearl, Vern, and an infant Oren Rinehart; infant granddaughter, Lynne Campbell; great granddaughter, Tara Moore; and great-great grandson, baby Charles.
Helen’s family will greet friends on Monday, June 18, 2012, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services celebrating her life will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Mosher officiating.  Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio 43338.

The family would like to give a very heartfelt “Thank You” to all of the staff at Woodside Village Care Center, the staff at Dr. Freundlich’s office, and the staff of Morrow County Hospice for all of their loving care of Gee-Gee.
