Harding Student Awarded AAA Grant

Marion Harding High School Senior, Sarah Shelton recently became one of a select group of Ohio seniors to receive the 25th annual AAA School Safety Patrol $1,000 Grant. Each year, AAA Ohio Auto Club awards this grant to 10 former School Safety Patrol members to assist them as they further their education after high school.

This year, AAA selected Shelton out of hundreds of students to receive this elite honor. Based on Shelton’s application, transcripts, long list of activities, well written essay and glowing letters of recommendation, she is a perfect fit for this grant.

Shelton is graduating in the top 15 percent of her class and plans on attending the Ohio State University to study Athletic Training this fall. Aside from her academic success, she has been involved in a variety of activities and organizations, including marching band, volleyball, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, International Club, Ski Club, Parent Teacher Association, Teen Institute and many more.

“Sarah Shelton is a very hardworking, dedicated, focused and determined young student,” said mentor, Tina D. Benton, in a letter of recommendation. “She deserves nothing more than an opportunity to pursue her scholastic dream of helping others.”

Each year, millions of elementary school students across the United States and in 30 other nations, volunteer their time to help ensure their peers make it to and from school safely. The AAA School Safety Patrol Grant Program is a way for AAA Ohio Auto Club to give back to a select number of former AAA School Safety Patrol members by helping them further their education.

To apply, students must complete an application, write a 500-word essay on how their experience in the AAA School Safety Patrol has influenced their lives and provide at least one written letter of recommendation.

AAA provides more than 53 million members with travel-, insurance-, financial- and automotive-related services. AAA clubs can be visited online at AAA.com.
