The slots will spin and the dice will fly at Hollywood Casino Columbus beginning on Oct. 8.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission on Wednesday approved the opening based on a recommendation by commission Executive Director Matthew Schuler. The date, Oct. 8, also happens to be Columbus Day.
The Columbus casino will be the state's third to open. The Horseshoe Casino Cleveland opened May 14 and the Hollywood Casino in Toledo soon after.
"We are very, very excited about Oct. 8," said Ameet Patel, general manager of the Hollywood Casino Columbus. "We expect record crowds from what we've seen at our other properties in Ohio."
The Hollywood Casino Columbus is owned by Penn National Gaming, which also operates the casino in Toledo.
Schuler said the Monday opening will allow the casino "to ramp up to its busiest time" on Fridays and Saturdays. Also Wednesday, operators of the Cincinnati casino indicated to the commission that they are on pace to open Ohio's fourth and final casino in the spring of 2013.
