T. James Helwig age 82, of Kingston Residence of Marion passed away Monday, july 23, 2012 at 6:35 PM.
He was born January 12, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Paul and Novella (Alloway) Helwig.
On August 26, 1956 he married Gail (Hummel) in Chatsworth, Illinois.
He graduated from Capital University and Ohio State University with a degree in Medical Technology. He began his career in Marion, Ohio in 1956 at the Smith Clinic. He worked there thirty nine and a half years before retiring. He also served nine years in the Naval Reserve.
James was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and served as deacon, secretary for Lutheran Men in Ministry, Quilting Ministry Lutheran World Relief and the Garden Club of Marion. In his later years he served at Kinston Residence of Marion as a volunteer PR person.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Ken) Scott of Worthington, OH., Susan Wolfe of Columbus, OH., a son, Daniel (Debbie) Helwig of Columbus, OH., a sister, Emily (Walter) Heyse of Valley City, OH., and four grandchildren, Angie (Joe) Austin, Jermiah Helwig, James and Shannon Scott.
The funeral is 10 AM Saturday, June 28, 2012 at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Schuring and A.I.M. Kevin Kehn officiating. Burial will be held Monday, July 30, 2012 @ 10 AM graveside at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio. Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, July 27, 2012 from 5 – 8 PM at Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church or to Oyate Concern, a mission on a reservation in South Dakota ( P.O. Box 148 Oglala, SD. 57764) which his granddaughter is involved in.
