The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Orville Redenbacher Parade is set to step off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6; and entry forms are due by this Friday, August 17. The theme for this year’s event is “The Wild, Wild West”.
Entry forms are available at the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, 205 West Center Street, the Marion Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, 1713 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road in Mallard Square, or online at www.popcornfestival.com. Although most questions are answered on the entry form, additional queries regarding the parade may be directed to 740-725-9691.
Festival officials indicated that, although the overall theme for the Festival is “The Big Pop”, the Festival’s parade and pageant events enjoy setting a secondary theme each year to give the events a coordinated look, as well as giving direction to the infinite creativeness of the participants. It is felt that the “The Wild, Wild West” theme will give parade entrants a great outlet for their imaginative spark.
Currently celebrating its 32nd year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. The 2012 Marion Popcorn Festival, set for September 6, 7, and 8, is sponsored in part by the City of Marion.
