Marion City Council meets on Monday to discuss a long agenda, including nine ordinances that call for issuing new bond notes. Before the full Council meets, two committees will meet and that could mean even more things for the full Council to discuss.
The Municipal Services Committee will meet at 6:30 pm to discuss the job descriptions for Engineering Aide II, Custodian, and Building Maintenance Supervisor.
At 7:00 pm, the Finance Committee will meet after cancelling their meeting scheduled for last Tuesday. The committee will discuss a FEMA grant that will pay for the installation of a fire suppression system in the fire station on South Prospect Street.
The Finance Committee will also hold a public hearing for the preliminary 2011 City budget and discuss a contract with Haley and Aldrich for professional services at the corner of Columbia and South Prospect Streets, the site of a former manufactured gas facility.
At 7:30 pm, the full City Council plans to meet.
In old business, they will discuss the purchase of various materials for the Division of Water Pollution Control, a cleaning contract with Dave’s Carpet Sales, and updating job descriptions for Bailiff, Deputy Bailiff, Probation Officer, Clerk of Court, and Deputy Clerk – Municipal Court.
In new business, Council will discuss several bond issues, including:
- Issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $400,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving Columbia Street and Blaine Avenue, between certain termini, by constructing storm water sewers and sanitary sewers;
- Issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $700,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving Columbia Street, between certain termini, by constructing and rehabilitating storm water sewers and sanitary sewers;
- Issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $1,400,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving Millburn Avenue and Meadow Street, between certain termini, by constructing storm water sewers and sanitary sewers, widening and lowering the streets, installing curbs and drainage and replacing sidewalks and driveway approaches;
- Issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $1,600,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving Oak Street, between certain termini, by constructing storm water sewers and sanitary sewers, widening and lowering the street, installing curbs and drainage, and replacing sidewalks and driveway approaches;
- Issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $400,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving Robinson Avenue, between certain termini, by constructing storm water sewers, installing curbs and drainage, and resurfacing the street;
- The issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $1,100,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving West Center Street, between certain termini, by constructing and rehabilitating sanitary sewers;
- The issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $150,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of constructing and rehabilitating the sanitary sewer system in the Marion Plaza and in the Royal Oaks subdivision;
- The issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $150,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of improving the sanitary sewer system at the Marion landfill by installing leachate collection pipes and pumps to collect and transport leachate from the original landfill cell to the existing leachate collection system;
- The issuance and sale of notes in the aggregate principal amount of $2,400,000, in anticipation of the issuance of bonds, to pay costs of constructing, equipping and furnishing an aquatic center.
Many of these bonds will be repaid for using state and federal grants.
