Sandra K. “Sandy” Haycox, age 29 of Marion, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, June 26, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Beautiful in every way, she had a big heart with an endearing smile. She was born in Marion on November 9, 1980, and was a graduate of the Marion Harding High School Class of 1999. While in high school, she lettered in tennis and enjoyed the arts.
She continued her quest for knowledge by earning a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the Ohio State University and a Master’s degree in education from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Working with the Marion City School System for the past 6 years, she was a reading specialist with grades K thru 3 at the Taft Elementary School. Literature was an important part of her life, as she loved all types of books; especially those for children.
She had such a strong love for animals. Her pet cats (Maggie, Sterling, Tucker and Cooper) and dog (Bosco) were like her children and she showed her love for animals as she volunteered for the Marion Area Humane Society.
Friendly but shy, she treasured time spent with friends; especially her best friend and sister, Kaylen. Both humorous and goofy, she was loving at heart and always made everyone laugh.
Always the teacher, Sandy will be remembered for her love of life, family, and animals.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Adam Haycox, whom she married in 2006; mother and father: Patricia (Snyder) and Leonard Brown of Marion; sister, Kaylen Brown of Marion; step-daughter, Jacquelynne Haycox; birth father, Dwight Wayne Canterbury; grandparents: Richard and LuLu Snyder of Monnett, and Elizabeth Canterbury of Marion; parents-in-law: Jim and Jan Haycox of Marion; numerous aunts , uncles and cousins as well as a host of friends, fellow teachers, and students.
Loved by everyone, she was taken too soon but did so much in such a short time here on earth and influenced so many lives. Sandy will forever remain in our hearts and will always be her mother's blond haired, blue eyed baby.
Her family will welcome friends during a time of celebration of her life from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where a service celebrating the life of Sandy Haycox will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Rath officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery.
In keeping with her love of animals, memorial contributions can be made to Marion Area Humane Society, 2264 Richland Rd., Marion, Ohio 43302.
