Marion Area Health Center, located at 1050 Delaware Avenue in Marion, is the site of the annual Diabetes Drive-Thru from 7:30 am to 10:45 am on Saturday, August 18. This free screening allows area residents 18 years and older to be checked for diabetes, free of charge, while remaining in their vehicles.
AAA – Gas Prices Not Likely to Fall Anytime Soon
Gas prices spiked once again Monday afternoon at many Ohio gas stations. Around Marion, prices Wednesday morning were averaging about $3.85 per gallon. This is the latest in a series of price spikes that have taken place across the state since early July. AAA reports that the higher gas price trend is not likely to end in the near future.
Marion Factory Looking to Hire at Least 20
US Yachiyo and Opportunity Marion will be conducting pre-screening interviews for 20 or more direct hire general labor positions. The Job-a-Bego will be on site at US Yachiyo, 1177 Kellogg Parkway in Marion, to assist the company. Screening will be conducted from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2012.
Local Feast of the Assumption to Feature Danielle Rose
St. Mary Parish’s annual Feast of the Assumption in Marion will feature the return of beloved Christian singer, songwriter and speaker Danielle Rose. Feast organizers say that Rose, whose music is best described as Christian folk music, is memorable for her voice of expressive, crystalline clarity, as well as her original guitar and piano compositions. She has performed at St. Mary twice in the past, as recently as seven years ago.
As the School Year Nears, School Bus Safety Urged
Summer break ends for thousands of Ohio children this month who will be heading back to school. In Marion, students return to school next week. For many, the trip to and from school involves riding on a school bus. Currently, the Ohio State Highway Patrol motor vehicle inspectors are in the process of inspecting every Ohio school bus to ensure each bus is safe to transport children to and from school, and school-sanctioned events.
Colgrove Crowned 2012 Miss Teeny Pop
Faith Colgrove was chosen Miss Teeny Pop 2012 Saturday during competition at River Valley High School. The 12-year also won overall talent, as well as her age group in: Modeling and Commercial. Colgrove is in the 7th grade at River Valley Middle School. She is the granddaughter of Paul and Melissa Hines, and the daughter of Tim Colgrove and Paula Dildine.
Marion YMCA Says Swim Programs Teach Confidence and Safety
As the end of summer approaches, the Marion Family YMCA reminds kids and adults about the importance of practicing safety when in and around the water year round. The Y offers a variety of swim programs in Marion, where they say swimmers can have fun while developing confidence, engaging in physical activity and learning safety skills that can save lives.
Ballinger Earns Miss Teen Popcorn Crown
Brianna Ballinger captured the 2012 Miss Teen Popcorn title Saturday evening in festivities at River Valley High School. Ballinger also seized the top honors in the Anything Popcorn category, as well as part of a three-way tie for the top Talent award. This effort earned her two $50 awards sponsored Carol and Gene Ault and JoAnne Cook respectively.
