Bruce D. Stevenson, Superintendent of Ohio Division of Liquor Control (Division), announced that spirituous liquor dollar sales reached a record level of $825 million in Fiscal Year 2012. This was an increase of $54 million (7%) over the previous year. The Division also realized an increase of $14 million (5.9%) in net profit, for a total of $251.4 million.
MARMET Arrests 15 in Operation Vigilance
The MARMET Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, says a nearly six month investigation, called Operation Vigilance, into the sale of illegal drugs in the Marion area resulted in several search warrants executed on Friday, August 3. As a result of the raids, 15 people were arrested on drug related and other charges.

The 32nd annual Miss Marion Popcorn Scholarship Program will be held this Saturday, August 4, at the Grant Middle School gymnasium. In addition to the eight contestants in that competition, eight others will vie for the crown of Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival.
Study – Jailhouse Phone Calls Reveal Domestic Abuse Clues
An analysis of jailhouse phone calls between men charged with felony domestic violence and their victims allowed researchers for the first time to see exactly what triggered episodes of violent abuse. The findings showed that violence often immediately followed accusations of sexual infidelity made by one or both of the partners. Drug or alcohol use was often involved.
Marion Police Arrest Two Murder Suspects from Other Cities
The Marion Police Department and the U.S. Marshall’s Service say they arrested two murder suspects in the past 24 hours. Neither murder took place in Marion, but investigators from Detroit and Cleveland had learned they were in the Marion area trying to avoid arrest.
