Working together through sharing information and expanding education efforts, the agencies say they will focus on fraudulent activity targeting everyday consumers. Topix Website Agrees to Changes Combating Cyber Bullying
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray Monday joined 33 other attorneys general to announce a joint statement with Topix focused on cleaning up cyber bullying related to the news forum website. The agreement is the result of a multi-state effort requesting that Topix.com change its website policies concerning abusive postings involving minors.
Miss Marion Popcorn Festival Crowned
Morgan Candel captured the title of Miss Marion Popcorn Festival 2010 Saturday evening, August 7, during competition at Grant Middle School.
By winning the Miss Marion Popcorn Festival title, Candel earned a scholarship sponsored by H & R Block-Steve Rhoades. She also received the Festival crown and prize package.
Marion City Schools Holding Open Houses
The Marion City Schools will hold open houses at their buildings over the next couple of weeks.
Harding Freshman Orientation is on Tuesday, August 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.
Grant Middle School will hold their open houses on Tuesday, August 10. The 6th grade will be from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The 7th and 8th grades will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
State Fair Livestock Auction Sets Records
The livestock auction on the closing day of the Ohio State Fair has set six price records, including one for some high-priced poultry.
A group of four grand champion meat chickens raised by 18-year-old Tyler Gray of central Ohio's Union County sold to the Kroger Co. for $27,000. That's $9,000 more than the previous record, paid in 2001 by Kroger, the Cincinnati-based supermarket chain.
Messina to Perform Timeless Hits at Popcorn Festival
The Marion Popcorn Festival has named Mario Messina as the entertainment for the Palace Theatre on Thursday afternoon, September 9, at 2:00. Messina’s performance will feature timeless hits from the ‘50s and ‘60s, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and more. As with all Festival entertainment, this performance is free to the public.
