Regional favorite Johnny Steiner takes patrons on a musical journey across the American landscape with Coast to Coast in the May Pavilion Sunday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. as part of the Sunday with the Arts series.
Johnny wears many musical hats: performer, conductor, composer, and teacher. And if you’ve seen Johnny perform at the Palace, it’s been as many characters: Curly McLain, Cornelius Hackl, Scarecrow, and Will Rogers.
On May 2 Johnny appears as himself singing songs about many places: Georgia on my Mind, New York, New York, Oklahoma, Deep in the Heart of Texas, and Beautiful Ohio among others. Pianist Eileen Huston accompanies him for this one-man show.
The concert’s theme and set list match his latest album of the same name. By Steiner’s count, the Coast to Coast album mentions 163 locations including his hometown of nearby Green Camp. While the songs range in styles, each receives that classic crooner touch by Steiner.
An alumnus of Elgin High School and Otterbein College, Johnny has been entertaining audiences for several years. He has sung on stage with stars such as Barry Manilow, Marvin Hamlisch, and Bob Newhart.
“I cannot begin to express what it is like to perform for a living,” says Steiner. “There is nothing I’d rather do than stand on a stage and sing.”
Come see for yourself what others have called “captivating, charming and simply perfect” as Johnny performs Coast to Coast in the May Pavilion.
