Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 will hold their eighth annual Soccer Shoot on Saturday, May 15th at Glenwood Park, located at the south end of Latourette Street. Registration will start at 9:45 PM, with the Soccer Shoot starting at 10:00 AM. The Elks Soccer Shoot is free of charge and is open to all boys and girls under the age of fourteen.
A contestant’s age is determined by the individual’s birthday as of August 1, 2010. Winners will move on to compete in the Elks district competition in Bucyrus in June. Winners of the district competition (and their parents) will receive a free hotel stay to compete at the state competition in Coshocton in July.
The National Elks started the Soccer Shoot program in 1998. It is a two-stage contest designed to best represent the skill levels of the four age groups involved. Boy and Girl winners from each of three age brackets progress through local Elks Lodge, District, State and Regional Contests up to the National Finals.
“All Elks Youth Activities programs have the common goal of keeping children occupied with positive, character-building role models and activities, providing alternatives to drug use, and simply having fun,” said Ray Haines, Soccer Shoot-Out Chairman of the Marion Elks Lodge. “We’re hoping for another great turnout this year.”
All Marion area children are invited to attend, and may sign up the day of the event (arrive around 9:30 AM). Please note a parent’s signature will be required.
No special equipment is necessary, just shoes, shirt shorts and/or pants. Shin guards are not required. Articles of clothing that display words, slogans or images that are in poor taste for a youth activity will not be allowed.
