Marion City Council meets tonight (Monday) to discuss several items, including upgrades to City Hall, several job description changes, licensing a new taxi company, and proposed grant-funded projects.
Proposed upgrades to City Hall would be paid for through a Energy Efficiency and Conservation Grant. The improvements include changing the front doors. Service Director Jay Shoup says a study showed that gaps in the front doors are equal to having a 2×3 foot window open all the time.
Other improvements would include upgrades to 3,500 light fixtures throughout City Hall. The grant is over $350,000 and Council will decide if they want to send out a request for proposals from area companies to complete the work.
Marion resident Harry Thomas will ask Council to approve a taxi license for his new company “Harry’s Taxi.” Thomas told council members last week that the other Marion companies close fairly earlier and he feels there is an important need for his services late night and early morning.
Safety Director Tom Robbins says that no one has applied for a taxi license for a number of years. He explained that while it has been a cumbersome process, Thomas has been very gracious and went out of his way to help with the process.
Several job descriptions updates will be discussed for Mayor Secretary; Clerk of Council; Administrative Assistant for Safety/Service; Senior Secretary for Law Director, and Secretary for Law Director. This is an ongoing process as the City updates the descriptions to match the realities of the jobs.
City Council will also discuss proposed projects for the Community Development Block Grant and the Community Distress Grant.
City Council meets on the second floor of City Hall starting at 7:30pm. The public is invited to attend and provide input.
