MTC, OSUM Holding Springfest

The Ohio State Marion Campus Activities Board (CAB) in conjunction with the Marion Campus Office of Student Activities will host Springfest 2010 Saturday, May 22, from 2-11 p.m. on the campus of The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College, 1465 Mount Vernon Avenue, Marion.

According to organizers, the goal of the event is to bring Marion Tech and Ohio State Marion students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community together in celebration of the successful end of another academic year.  Admission, parking, live musical entertainment, and the drive in movie at dusk are free and open to the public.

“The college experience goes beyond books and the classroom,” explained Michal Short, director of student affairs at Ohio State Marion.  “A huge part of college is the social and learning experiences outside of class.  It is making lifelong friendships and memories, and sharing in events like Springfest help make that possible.”

Organizers hope the event will turn into an annual success story, much like its predecessor “May Day,” which saw thousands of young people descend on the Marion campus in its first 20-25 year history.

The event will feature, campus student organizations running carnival type games, multiple giant inflatable games such as a giant glove boxing ring, bouncy balloon house, joust/bungee run, and obstacle course.

Free live musical entertainment is slated from 2-8 p.m., Groups performing include:  4 THE RECORD (contemporary a cappella) at 2 p.m., 720 (hip-hop) at 3 p.m., Scott Duress (acoustic) at 4 p.m., InChant (contemporary a cappella) at 5 p.m., Jamie Bauslaugh (classic rock/acoustic) at 6 p.m., and Zac Baaske (acoustic) 7 p.m.

Genesis Catering of Marion will provide reasonably priced picnic style food such as hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, popcorn, soft drinks, water, and fruit cobbler throughout the day.

At dusk (suggested arrival 8 p.m.) a giant inflatable outdoor screen will air the movie “The Hangover” rated-R.  Event patrons can watch the movie drive-in style in the comfort of their car by tuning the sound in through their fm radio, or bring a blanket/lawn chairs.  The screen will be erected on the west side of the Alber Student Center facing the first student lot.

In addition to a host of events throughout the day the Office of Student Activities, Outdoor Pursuits, will offer a Fly Fishing Clinic in the Alber Student Center, Room 111A from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.  Cost for this event is $35 for all your fly fishing gear and lunch.
