The Victim Assistance Program held its annual “I am a safe kid because” contest to commemorate National Crime Victims Rights Week, April 18-24, 2010. Mayor Scott Schertzer issued a proclamation designating Victims’ Right Week for Marion County for the week.
More than 500 entries from third graders from Marion City and County Schools were received this year. Twenty entries were chosen as semi-finalists and were awarded gift certificates donated by Dairy Queen and The Palace Theater. The 20 semi-finalist entries hung in the City Hall Atrium that week.
The four finalists, pictured above, were awarded $25.00 gift certificates and the grand prizewinner, Owen Sullivan, received a $50.00 gift certificate and a pizza party for his class.
Wyandot Inc. and Junior Service Guild sponsored the gift certificates and pizza party, as well as, the printing cost to reproduce the poster, which will used to promote the Victim Assistance Program for the next year. Moxie Hair Salon donated a gift certificate to the grand prizewinner’s teacher.
