Electronic Billboard Approved by Council Committee

The Finance Committee of Marion City Council approved plans for a new electronic billboard in downtown Marion. The measure still needs to be approved by the full Council, which could occur this week.

Marion resident and businessman Mike Zucker wants to construct a 12×25 foot digital billboard. The new signage would be in the same place where a previous double billboard was previously. This is the billboard that stood behind the main stage of the Popcorn Festival.

City Council must approve the sign, in part, because the billboard would extend over a City alley. Because of that encroachment on City-owned property, Zucker will pay a lease of $1,000 a year.

The City Planning Commission and Ohio Edison have both signed off on the plan.
