Two Grants Helping City Police

The Marion City Police Department is getting a boost from two grants. One is helping with the drug task force and the other will help purchase equipment for the department.

Major Jay McDonald says METRICH, a multi-county drug task force, received federal stimulus money and the City then requested a portion of that money. The grant totals about $74,000 after the required matching funds.

The money is being used to keep an officer working with MARMET, the Marion County drug task force. McDonald says without this grant they would have had to remove an officer from MARMET.

The second grant is in the process of being finalized and will total a little less than $10,000. This money will be used to purchase equipment for the Department including computers.
