When construction began to renovate the Marion County Courthouse, workers began looking for the time capsule that was placed there. The problem…the capsule wasn’t where the records said. Then, while searching around, they found a capsule they weren’t expecting to find.
The capsule they were looking for was finally found on Monday. It’s smaller than a shoe box, but full of items places there in 1884.
The surprise capsule is much larger and resembles a beer keg. It was learned that capsule was placed in the courthouse in 1984. Because that has not been very long ago, the capsule will be replaced in the courthouse during the renovation.
The smaller, older capsule will be opened on August 26 at 5:00 pm at the Marion County Courthouse. The public is invited to the opening.
